I thought I had killed my want for a small 4x4 SUV to beat on, but nope.
Then this things has to pop up for $1200 obo. Which means I could probably snag the damn thing up for $1000. For a running, driving first gen Jimmy with minimal amounts of rust (that I can see.)

I’m perfectly okay with this engine “haunting” me. It’s invincible, unkillable, and it should move a tiny Jimmy around just fine. The only reason it’s so slow in the van is because that whale weighs over 5,000lbs with all the custom appointments in it and the transmission is shot.

I drove an 85 S10 with the old 4.3 once. Even with almost no weight it was still a slug. A fun slug, but still a slug.
35hp extra will help, but the Jimmy is also heavier than an S10.
That said, I love these things.

My 4.3 is a hybrid (burns gas and oil). And it'll probably continue to do so until the end of time. I swear the 4.3 could throw a rod and still chug chug down the road.

I don’t see the typical blatant rust. there’s a little bit over the front fenders, but this year Jimmy should have no fender left at this point.
The 4.3L is awesome, I had a blast with mine (first vehicle). built it by hand with my dad, 60* over bore, ported heads, upgraded valves/rockers, exhaust, that thing hauled ass.
It’s to this day selling it is still my biggest automotive regret.

My shop teacher’s daughter spun a bearing in one of his Blazers and he drove it the over 100 miles to school to replace the motor without issues.
4.3 ain’t care.

Dat off center tire.
I really, really, really want this. It’s something I could drive on the shitty streets in downtown to go to college and not worry about breaking it. Or getting help up at gunpoint at night for it. Two real fears with my M3.

It’ll go anywhere you want it to and no, no one is going to steal it.
I drove mine in high school and all the way through college. The Red 2004 4 door Blazer in the background replaced it.
The 88 was the better truck. Sure the 04 was nicer inside and had more options, but the 88 was the better vehicle.
Drove the 88 through 14 inches of unplowed snow and barely needed 4x4.

Can. Wasn’t the biggest issue with them the way they ran out of steam higher up the revs to to breathing issues? Poor flowing heads/cam/etc?

I had one just like that but an 85 in brown on brown. First vehicle I ever owned. Pretty impressive off road too. Burned oil to the point where I could tell it was out because it would start running better (the oil would be fouling the gas).

Was never an issue for me mine was bored 60 over with ported heads, upgraded valves and an upgraded cam lol

Hahahaha.
I had a fresh motor because I built it with my dad, never burned a drop of oil.
I bet I had much worse gas mileage than normal though thanks to our modifications.
